Classes for Adults

Sawyer Street Studios offers adult clay classes in seven and eight week sessions from September to June. Each class has a maximum of six students and a casual atmosphere. Since the classes are small, each student can pursue his or her personal interest, whether that be learning or perfecting skills on the wheel or handbuilding functional or sculptural pieces.

We use terra cotta clay and teach a variety of decorating techniques with colorful low-fire glazes and slips. Students have studio access two days per week in addition to class time.

Upcoming adult classes:

Sessions: Thursdays, January 7th — March 4th
(8 week session, no class Feb. 18th)

Thursdays, March 18th — May 13th
(8 week session, no class Apr. 22th)
Time: 6:00 — 9:00 p.m.
Cost: $245 — includes materials, firings and 2 extra work days a week

Classes for Kids

Sawyer Street Studios offers children's clay classes for ages 5-10 and 9-16 in a relaxed, supportive setting. Clay is a great medium for children to build hand strength, fine motor skills and stretch their imaginations. The focus of the class is on process vs. product, building confidence to try new things and developing the young artist's interest.
Class size is limited to eight to insure individual attention.

For ages 5-10, the hand building technques of pinch, coil, and slab are taught and project ideas are suggested.

For ages 9-16, hand building as well as throwing on the wheel are taught and project ideas are developed between sudents and instructor.

Upcoming kids' classes (ages 5-10):

Sessions: Jan 7th — Feb 4th (5 weeks)
$105

March 4th — April 8th (6 weeks)
$115

April 29th — June 3rd (6 weeks)
$115
Time: 4:00 — 5:15 p.m.

We occasionally have private studio spaces available.
