Sawyer Street Studios

…is a community of working ceramic artists sharing equipment and ideas, located in Ferry Village, South Portland. It is owned by artists Lynn Duryea, Abby Huntoon, Sharon Townshend, and Louise Trout. The studio also houses the workspaces of Julie Cunningham, Meryl Ruth, Nancy Nevergole, Amanda Kobayashi, Paul Heckler, and Annie Poe. We share the use of four electric kilns, one high fire gas kiln, and a raku kiln.

Our common space serves as a classroom and provides equipped shared studio space for four short term renters. We are an incubator for young artists who come from either our own classes or from art schools. Sawyer Street is an open studio that offers interaction among artists of different levels. Many of the common space artists transition to starting their own studios.
